Fish to Furs to Fleeces: Grocery Stores in Inuvik

There is a surprising number of grocery stores and corner stores in Inuvik, which provide a variety of dry goods, fresh fruit and vegetables, meats, and dairy products.  Most people have favourite places to go for specific items, depending on either the price or the quality of the food.  It's not unusual to pick up your food at several different places.

There are three main grocery stores in town:

NorthMart used to be the Hudson Bay Company store, and is right downtown - it has a food and department store section, as well as a pharmacy.

Stanton's is a large store on the north side of town, and has the greatest variety, particularly in bulk.

Arctic Foods (aka V&S) has a good variety if you want deli or specialty food.

Among some of the more unusual offerings...

I was horrified to see that Twilight fever had spread this far north -- if you had a craving to snuggle up with a hot werewolf, you could buy this Breaking Dawn fleece... who am I kidding?  I am loyally Team Jacob, and not ashamed to admit it!

But that paled in comparison to my surprise when I saw this in Arctic Foods...

Yes, you can pick up furs on your grocery trip!  Foxes, beavers, rabbits, and seal skin are among the ones I recognized.

I love it.  Where else can you find furs right next to the produce section?!

This morning I woke up thinking to all the stuff I was able to cook back in Italy, yes because, if in NY you can find everything, “fresh food”, like we are used to in Italy, here is very difficult to find, plus, most of the ingredient that we use, for them are pretty much inexistent.
