Over the weekend, our small town was overrun with hockey fans from the surrounding communities who gathered to play in or watch the IRC Native Hockey Tournament from February 16 to 19, 2012. It was a fun few days, and the Midnight Sun Complex was humming with activity. Teams like the Aklavik Killer Bees and the Ice Hogs played before a packed arena, and the long-standing rivalry continued between the teams sponsored by some of the bigger companies in the area - Inuvik's Northwind Industries and Tuktoyaktuk's E. Gruben's Transport, who faced off in the A Division finals.
I watched the final game on Sunday evening with some friends, and it was a great chance to yell and scream and participate in a significant community event.
What better way to end than with some pictures of the littlest hockey fan, Pepper. This cutie-pie belongs to a friend from work, but gets passed around from arm to arm, as everyone likes to snuggle with her!
