Either way, readers are readers, so I'll take it!
My preps for the move are almost done. One of the most important things I've done is prepare for the cold... it will be -28 Celsius on Wednesday when I arrive, before factoring in wind-chill. It will also be dark all day -- I've been told that from around December 6 to January 6, the sun doesn't come over the horizon. However, I have also learned that it isn't COMPLETE darkness, as the sun is hovering just below the horizon. But it sure will be cold and probably grey at best. I can't wait! Yes, I must be crazy.
Without intending to, I have conveniently built up some natural insulation with all the eating I've done over the holidays :(. Hopefully that extra layer of insulation won't last long once I join the gym...
In addition, I have purchased 100% Merino Wool undergarments made from New Zealand mountain sheep... This was what the folks in the Atmosphere store recommended.
A friend had mentioned silk as being the best option for long underwear, but I didn't have time to go to MEC while in Vancouver. So I went with wool, which the 'clothing expert' in the store said was even better, and guaranteed no-itch. We'll see -- I may try wool this winter and silk next winter and blog about the comparison... :) For now, this better keep me toasty, especially at close to $100 per garment!
And lots of moisturizer, as Inuvik is extremely dry. I was told I had to purchase two humidifiers for my house -- one for upstairs and one for downstairs, as there is no moisture in the air. I'm not looking forward to dry skin!
Some gratuitous last views of beautiful British Columbia taken in the last couple of weeks...
