During our visit to the Hamlet of Aklavik, we had the chance to visit a child development centre (a pre-school provided with government funding), an elementary school, and an elders home. It was a privilege to see how closely knit the community is, and how committed they are to taking care of the very young all the way to the not-so-young-anymore.
The pre-school program in Aklavik is held in the main building in town that also houses government and other services. It is clean, well-equipped, and has very dedicated teachers. And, of course, cute students!
Not far away, the elders care facility is home to a number of energetic, interesting residents, who are always happy to receive visitors.
