About Inuvik

I won't repeat information that is readily available online, except to highlight the main points about the place I called home for over 3 years (January 2012 - March 2015) - Inuvik is a town of about 3,500 people located approximately 200 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle at the northern end of the Dempster Highway in the Northwest Territories of Canada. It is remote but lively, wild but beautiful, and (based on the people I've met so far) full of community spirit and an appreciation for everything that northern living has to offer.

Below are some of the things that I am looking forward to the most (keeping in mind that I am writing this before actually moving ... we'll see how many of these I accomplish!).
*Update November 2014 - I am proud to say I have accomplished all of these things and many more!
In the winter:
1. Dog sledding - this combines being outdoors, gliding through the snow, and warm animals. What's not to love?
2. Driving the ice highway - I don't expect it to be as dramatic as an Ice Road Truckers episode, but it will still be a thrill for me!
3. Seeing the northern lights
4. Cross-country skiing
5. Getting lots of sleep!
In the summer:
1. Sun and warmth at last
2. Experiencing the midnight sun and 24-hour days
3. Visits from family and friends
4. Enjoying all things outdoors - road trips, camping, paddling, hiking
